Copes-Vulcan - Nuclear Centre of Almaraz
Replacement of the internal TRIM of the Control Valves that were generating vibrations in the Systems that Supply water to the N.C. of Almaraz's Reactors.
Application
Improve the existing INTERNAL TRIMS of the valves that control the pumping of water to the nuclear reactor for producing steam with a high level of vibrations, with other newly developed "QUAD BAFFLE" type, which do not generate shock waves or vibrations when changes are experienced in the flow and pressure.
The problem
With Operational Safety as the main objective and trying to lower the probability of a serious failure occurring in the operation as well as the installations and systems, the customer decided to replace the internal components of the Control Valve of UNIT 1. The internal components of COPES VULCAN have always provided accurate and reliable operations in all the installations where they have been installed.
The solution
The Technical Specification listed a series of technical characteristics the chosen units were required to meet.
Namely:
reducing the instability of the supply flow to eliminate vibrations produced by changes in pressure and flow inside the pipes. This solution was approved by WESTINGHOUSE, the company with licensing authority for the Plant and familiar with this operation.
The results
After performing checks with similar equipment in other plants, the first Trims were installed in UNIT 1. Immediately after starting, the client verified that the solution
was perfect, checking the reliability of the measurements and the accuracy of the operation, which instilled confidence in the system and allowed exporting the solution to UNIT 2. The selecting of these INTERNAL components guarantees the Safety of the Operation.
